VPS Hosting

I like to manage my own server but dedicated boxes are way off my budget. So I took the next best thing. VPS

It took me awhile to find the right fit for me. My requirements are fairly simple:

  • Root access
  • Lots of Distros to choose from
  • Unlimited OS Reinstalls
  • Reliable up time
  • Within my budget(Cheap)

Every time I do a search for cheap VPS or cheapest VPS I always end up at lowendbox.com. So I keep going back there until I found what I was looking for a VPS with enough space, bandwidth, and good reviews for USD 48/year. I ended up with a VPS from Hudson Valley Host with:

  • 50GB HDD space
  • 2GB RAM
  • 1TB Bandwidth

This is more than enough for my use case. They have great support and I have never experienced a downtime. So if like me you're looking for that perfect virtual space visit:

Edit:

Hudson Valley Host the first VPS I ever used seems to have folded. All my unexpired VPS with them are still active though. Support seems non-existent and try as I might, I can no longer login through the client portal. This is not to say anything bad against Hudson Valley Host but maybe it's time for me to hunt for a new provider. It was a good deal for me until it lasted. I just wished they had sent out notification emails.

Anyway visited Low End Box (LEB) and Low End Talk (LET) to start my new VPS hunt. There's a lot of great providers and a lot of discounts. I actually signed with 2 providers Racknerd and iHostArt.

Racknerd was instant gratification. I was able to instantly use the VPS. This site is currently being served through a Racknerd VPS. Although there's a lot of talk over at LET that might cast doubts about this provider, but I believe that until proven otherwise I will give this provider a go. Plus the deal was so sweet it's difficult for me to ignore. Head on to Low End Talk to look for your deals.

  • 2 GB RAM (Included)
  • 2 CPU Cores (Included)
  • 19.5 TB Bandwidth (After double the bandwidth promo)
  • 45 GB SSD
  • All these for USD 21.98 Annually

Ihostart is a promising provider. Gives a very interesting preselling offer in the form a NAT VPS with 1 vCPU, 512MB RAM, 50 GB SSD (raid 5),Unlimited Bandwidth (850-900 MBps speed), 1 NAT IPV4 with 20 open ports, DMCA ignore and some future bandwidth upgrade plan (up to 2.5 GBps). All this for USD 5.69 per year. The 50 GB space is what I am after here, it becomes a nice backup VPS. Although at the time of writing I have yet to receive my VPS (2 days from promised delivery). I am willing to wait though.

Anyone wanting a cheap VPS must remember that there are always tradeoffs when availing things for cheaper. Sometimes it's the provider's way of thanking his supporters while trying to attract new businesses. Other times the tradeoff is with the quality of service. But whatever the case, the best scenario will always be when you are aware of the risks and willing to take it. Who knows you might end up getting a great bargain.
